3 million families are connected to fiber optic service in Algeria

Algeria has achieved a new milestone, reaching the threshold of 3 million households connected to high-speed fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) Internet service, thus ranking first in Africa in the number of households connected to fiber-optic Internet service.
The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications announced, in a statement on Tuesday, as part of the continuous improvement of the quality of Internet services, that the threshold of 3 million households connected to high-flow Internet service via optical fiber to the home (FTTH) has been crossed.
The Ministry added that reaching this threshold comes in the context of implementing the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at achieving continued progress in completing the national connection with optical fibers, and in line with the “All Fiber” strategy announced by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, especially with setting the deadline for the year 2027 for the complete completion of the dissemination of this technology.
Fiber optic technology to the home (FTTH) is being disseminated in a balanced manner and includes all states of the country. As for the continental level, Algeria, with this number, ranks first in Africa with 3 million households with high-flow Internet (FTTH) service, followed by South Africa, Egypt, the Mauritius Islands, Côte d’Ivoire and Kenya.
Through this national achievement, the Ministry confirmed its intention to continue implementing this ambitious strategy, in coordination with various actors in the sector, led by Algérie Télécom – Algeria Telecom, in order to build a modern, sovereign and sustainable national digital system in the service of the citizen and the national economy.
