A new decree regulating the establishment of specialized centers for autism in Algeria – New Algeria

The establishment of these centers also aims to ensure optimal care, upbringing and specialized education for people with autism spectrum disorder according to adapted and unified pedagogical programs based on the cognitive and scientific references prepared by the National Center for Autism, by ensuring early education and school support in order to acquire knowledge, developing the relationship between the person and his environment, and ensuring the accompaniment of his family in addition to supporting their integration into the regular school environment and/or into vocational training. Extensions to these centers can also be established when needed.

According to the statement, the tasks of these centers are to ensure specialized education and education for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder who are three (3) years old until the end of their educational path in the specialized institutional setting and/or the regular setting according to adapted pedagogical programs prepared by the center, as well as ensuring their health, safety, well-being and development.

He is assigned in this capacity, especially with the following:

– Preparing an individual project for each person, according to his or her needs, with the involvement of parents,

– Ensuring early education and school support in order to acquire knowledge,

– Ensuring motor education and/or functional re-education, psychological follow-up and re-education for speech correction,

– Ensuring the development of the relationship between the person and his surroundings, and ensuring the accompaniment of his family,

– Supporting the integration of people with autism spectrum disorder into regular school settings and/or vocational training and ensuring their follow-up,

– Develop appropriate cultural, recreational and entertainment activities for people with autism spectrum disorder, and contribute to their integration in various fields and ensure their accompaniment and follow-up. These centers will be equipped with psychological and pedagogical councils that will contribute to studying issues related to care and pedagogical activities and to programs, curricula and education techniques for people with autism spectrum disorder and expressing their opinion on them. In this capacity, they will be specifically charged with the following:

-Ensuring the follow-up, evaluation, and guidance of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder in all areas of support, especially psychological, educational, and vocational training and education.

– Study and adapt pedagogical activities and follow up on their implementation,

– Proposing and implementing appropriate care techniques,

– Follow up on the guidance of future children and adolescents,

– Deciding on admission to institutions based on a medical and administrative file,

– Providing suggestions and recommendations on all pedagogical issues pertaining to the institution.

It is worth noting that this decree falls within the interests of the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Issues, and comes to unify the mechanisms for caring for people with autism spectrum disorder, and improve the conditions for accompanying them in the educational, educational, and social fields, in addition to enhancing their social and professional integration in order to achieve the principle of equal opportunities.
