In the early hours…Marseille announces the end of the Italian’s adventure

The management of the French Olympique Marseille announced, early this morning, that it had released the first team football coach, the Italian Roberto De Zerbi.

The club published a statement confirming that it had reached an agreement with De Zerbe to terminate the contract.

The management office, led by President Pablo Longoria and Sports Director Medhi Ben Attia, held an emergency meeting after returning from the capital, Paris.

They took the decision to terminate the Italian’s contract before officially announcing it, at three o’clock in the morning.

The defeat of Paris hastened his departure

The French newspaper “L’Equipe” revealed that the harsh defeat suffered by Olympique de Marseille against Paris Saint-Germain in the French League Clasico; It caused a rift between De Zerbe and his players.

The “League 1” champion rained down his guest’s net with a full score, marking the largest victory in the record of confrontations between the two ancient teams.

The humiliating defeat in the Parc des Princes weakened the position of the 46-year-old Italian coach, as he lost the support of the team’s pillars who supported him despite the criticism after the early elimination in the Champions League (a loss against Club Brugge in the last round 3-0).

De Zerbe received the technical model for the southern French representative in the summer of 2024, after a two-year experience with England’s Brighton Albion.

The coach then signed a contract linking him to Marseille until June 2027.

De Zerbe is known for his tendency to adopt an attacking style, which is the new trend of some emerging coaches in Italy recently.

The Brescia native became famous during his time with Sassuolo between 2018 and 2021, when the team played entertaining football after which he was nominated to move to Italy’s largest club.

On the contrary, Roberto preferred to have an experience outside the country, as he agreed to coach the ancient Ukrainian team, Shakhtar Donetsk, which won the local Super Cup with him.
