The Minister of Health announces the launch of heart transplantation in Algeria – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

The Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Ait Messaoudane, announced that Algeria will begin heart transplant operations this year in coordination with a number of developed countries that have successful experience in the field of organ transplantation, within the framework of the national program supervised by the National Organ Transplantation Agency.
The announcement came during the parliamentary day on human organ transplantation in Algeria, organized by the National Assembly at the suggestion of the Health, Social Affairs, Labor and National Solidarity Committee, where the minister stressed the need to develop this field to meet the needs of thousands of patients on waiting lists, and reduce the costs associated with treatment abroad.
The Minister pointed out that Algeria is still far from meeting the national needs in the field of transplantation, reviewing the kidney transplantation experiences since 1986, which did not exceed 1,600 operations, and the existence of some specialized transplantation operations, such as stem cell transplantation at the Pierre and Marie Curie Center for Cancer Treatment, as limited units at the national level.
The launch of heart transplantation comes within a national program aimed at strengthening Algeria’s capabilities in the field of organ transplantation, and providing advanced and safe treatment for citizens inside the country.
