A terrifying toll for civil protection in just the last 48 hours! – New Algeria

During the period extending from February 5 to February 7, 2026 (until eight in the morning), civil protection units recorded 6,659 interventions at a rate of (01 intervention every 26 seconds), including 4,368 health evacuations and 1,069 different operations, across several states of the country.

The Civil Protection Services explained in their statement, today, Saturday, that following the receipt of distress calls from citizens, 6,659 interventions were recorded during the last 48 hours.

According to the same statement, these interventions included various areas of civil protection activities, whether related to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, health evacuation, fire suppression, weather fluctuations, as well as security services.

In the context of traffic accidents, civil protection units carried out 312 interventions following many accidents recorded across several states of the country, which left 08 people dead at the scene of the accidents and 362 others injured with various injuries of varying severity.

Victims were also taken care of at accident sites and transferred by our services to local hospitals. The heaviest toll recorded at the level of the Algerian state was the death of (02) women, as a result of a car swerving followed by its fall into the sea, in the place called Prince Khaled Avenue, Bologhin Municipality, Bab El Oued District.

In the same context, civil protection services intervened to provide first aid to 23 people suffocating as a result of inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) gas emitted from heating devices and water heaters inside their homes across several states of the country. The victims were taken care of at the scene of the accidents and transferred to local health centers.

On the other hand, civil protection units intervened to extinguish 05 urban and different fires in each of Algiers Province with (02) fires, where 05 people were recorded suffering from shortness of breath, Constantine Province with (02) two fires, where 07 people were recorded suffering from shortness of breath, and Chlef Province with 01 fires, which left 18 people suffering from shortness of breath. The victims were taken care of at the scene of the accidents and then transferred to local hospitals. Our interests enable us to extinguish these fires and prevent their spread to other nearby places.

With regard to the outcome of civil protection interventions related to weather fluctuations during the same period, which affected the states of Chlef, Tissemsilt and Tipaza, where civil protection elements carried out 03 different operations, represented by the fall of walls, trees, and the erosion of soil, without recording human casualties.
