The Prime Minister receives the Director General of the International Monetary Fund – New Algeria

Prime Minister Seifi Gharib received, today, Thursday, at the Government Palace, Kristalina Georgieva, Director General of the International Monetary Fund, who is on a visit to Algeria, according to what Bayam reported to the Prime Minister’s interests.
During this meeting, the two sides discussed various aspects of cooperation between Algeria and the International Monetary Fund, as well as the activities programmed between them in the fields of finance, statistics, digitization, and rationalization of public spending, as well as policies to support economic development and diversify the national economy.
In this context, the Director General of the International Monetary Fund praised the existing cooperation relations with Algeria, the importance of which is evident in their joint endeavor to support development and build bridges of cooperation in the region, as highlighted by the high-level symposium organized in cooperation between the Bank of Algeria and the International Monetary Fund, entitled “North Africa: Connecting Continents and Creating Opportunities.”
Georgieva also noted the importance of the public policies and economic reforms led by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressing that Algeria was among the first countries that were able to achieve a rapid economic recovery from the repercussions of the Corona pandemic, and today continues to achieve important economic performance through the various projects it embodies, especially in the field of infrastructure.
For his part, the Prime Minister expressed his sincere thanks to the Director General of the International Monetary Fund for the importance that her institution attaches to cooperation with Algeria, noting the quality of the relations it has with this international financial institution and its readiness to continue bilateral coordination in a way that allows optimal exploitation of cooperation opportunities and moving forward in embodying the various activities programmed between the two sides.
The Prime Minister also touched on the various economic reforms initiated by Algeria under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which allowed for improving the investment climate and supporting the goals of diversifying the national economy, stressing at the same time Algeria’s intention to strengthen infrastructure, similar to the western railway line that the President of the Republic recently supervised, as well as supporting regional integration through national projects with an integration dimension and structured regional projects that will enhance economic mobility in the entire region.
In conclusion, the two sides stressed the importance of continuing joint work in order to explore ways to confront the current economic challenges and strengthen the foundations of stability and sustainable development at the regional and international levels.
