Attaf stresses the consular centers to settle the situation of the Algerian community abroad – New Algeria

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, affirmed, today, Wednesday, in Algiers, the commitment to the strategic direction of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, regarding the national community abroad, which translates its importance and position in the country’s foreign policy.
Attaf explained, in his speech while supervising the conclusion of the symposium of heads of consular posts at the Ministry’s headquarters, that “the strategic direction formulated by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the form of a comprehensive, complete and integrated vision that translates the importance, status and role of the national community abroad, sets as its priorities the strengthening of the spirit of belonging, fortifying the roots of connection, and enhancing the sense of citizenship among our national community abroad.”
He added that this perception emphasizes “the role played by the daughters and sons of Algeria in the diaspora as bridges of communication and understanding and as essential builders in weaving relations of cooperation and partnership between Algeria and their countries of residence,” in addition to that it “makes the sons and daughters of the national community abroad important actors in national development efforts in particular and in the path of national renewal that our country is witnessing in general.”
Addressing the heads of the consular centers, Attaf said: “There is no doubt that in recent years you have seen the results of the decisions and measures taken by the President of the Republic on behalf of the national community residing abroad,” explaining that they are “decisions and measures that remove any doubt and confirm that Algerian women and Algerian men living abroad are an integral part of the Algerian people, with their rights and privileges and their duties and responsibilities.”
In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to “taking care of the expenses of many services and recruitment to defend the rights of Algerian citizens abroad, expanding the national retirement system to include Algerian nationals abroad, as well as allocating shares of housing for their benefit within the framework of national housing programs.”
Regarding the economic aspect, he also referred to “motivating the national community abroad to contribute to the path of development of the national economy, especially by enabling our youth in the diaspora to benefit from the national mechanisms designated for creating small or emerging enterprises.”
Attaf also mentioned the important settlement measure recently approved by the President of the Republic for the benefit of Algerian youth living abroad in fragile or illegal situations.
In this regard, he highlighted the responsibility that falls on the heads of consular centers to “ensure the optimal implementation of this procedure, by accompanying the concerned citizens, male and female, through all the necessary stages to settle their situations once and for all.”
Etaf took the opportunity to praise the results and outputs of this symposium, which shed light on topics that fall at the heart of the concerns and concerns of the national community abroad, calling on the heads of consular centers to work to “continue embodying these results and outputs as required with all seriousness, responsibility and commitment.”
Regarding the development of consular management methods, Attaf said that the heads of the centers “are required to ensure the continued simplification of administrative procedures and ensure their unification and harmony in a manner consistent with the amendments that were approved to the legal framework regulating the consular function.”
The heads of consular posts must, in particular – adds the Minister of State – “ensure the implementation of the 17 regulatory texts that were approved at this symposium, which relate to all consular procedures and documents.”
With regard to providing legal and consular protection to members of the national community abroad, the Minister of Foreign Affairs called for the utmost attention to be given to this issue, which “constitutes the essence of consular work and its highest goals, especially by defending the interests of Algerian citizens and preserving their rights in the face of any injustice or abuse to which they may be exposed in their countries of residence.”
After stating that the majority of heads of consular posts abroad are “the best witnesses to modern practices and repeated attempts to diminish or even challenge the priority of this stable principle in consular work, namely the principle of consular protection,” Attaf stressed that the government “will remain extremely keen to fulfill all its obligations in this regard and not to neglect them one bit.”
