The National Gendarmerie units in the capital were able to dismantle two international cross-border criminal networks specializing in the illicit trade in psychotropic substances. Attempts to sell 4 million and 292 thousand hallucinogenic tablets were thwarted, while 20 drug dealers were arrested.
A statement by the Ministry of National Defense stated, on Tuesday, that within the framework of combating smuggling and organized crime and in the context of ongoing operations aimed at thwarting drug trafficking attempts in the country, the National Gendarmerie units in Algiers, the First Military Region, were able, in two separate operations, on Monday, to dismantle two international cross-border criminal networks specializing in the illicit trade in psychotropic substances.
The same authorities added that these two operations made it possible to thwart attempts to promote 4 million and 292 thousand hallucinogenic tablets, while 20 drug dealers were arrested, and 10 tourist cars were seized, along with sums of money and other items that were used in this criminal activity.
These two operations come in addition to the many operations that made it possible to thwart the introduction and promotion of these poisons in the country, and to confirm once again the high professionalism, constant vigilance and permanent readiness of the units of the People’s National Army with all its components to confront all forms of organized crime.
The bet remains on all segments of society to come together to fight this dangerous scourge and protect the nation’s capabilities, namely its youth.
In the same context, and within the framework of securing the borders and combating smuggling and organized crime, and in continuation of the operation that took place last January 27 in the Ghanama region in the state of Bashar, which enabled the elimination of 3 armed smugglers of Moroccan nationality and the arrest of another smuggler of the same nationality, with the seizure of a firearm, binoculars and an amount of drugs estimated at 521 kilograms of treated kif.
In the same area, a security formation affiliated with the military sector, Bashar, was able to seize another quantity of drugs estimated at 280 kilograms of processed kif, bringing the total seized amount of processed kif to more than 8 quintals.
