The Algerian army confirms its strength on the African and global scene

The Algerian army was classified as the strongest army in Africa, ranked second after Egypt, and ranked 27th globally out of 145 countries. The People’s National Army obtained a score of 0.4849 points in the Global Strength Index.

Algeria has maintained its position among the most powerful armies in the world, according to the Global Firepower website, superior to several advanced countries such as Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and others. This classification is presented based on indicators of its official strength and global standing, explaining the structural factors that support the strength of each army, how its defense systems work, and the noticeable trends that shape its future capabilities. Algeria came in second place as the strongest African armies, with a score of 4849 points in the strength index, and ranked 27th globally, after Egypt, which came first in Africa, and 19th globally, then Nigeria in third place in Africa, and 33rd globally, followed by South Africa, fourth in Africa, and 40th globally, and Ethiopia in fifth place in Africa, and 47th globally.

Algeria’s rating highlights its continued modernization, regional leadership, and strategic operational readiness, with notable policies indicating more investment in high-tech systems, joint training, and support for local industries. Its 2026 rating reflects an army built through government-led modernization, structured defense policy, and operational efficiency, making Algeria the second strongest army in Africa.
