The government is studying how to establish, organize, and operate agricultural cooperatives

During its meeting, the government studied many points, the most important of which were how to establish, organize and operate agricultural cooperatives, with the aim of modernizing the legal and regulatory framework for agricultural cooperatives in Algeria, to enhance their role in agricultural development, food security and promoting rural investment.

On Tuesday, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s interests, Prime Minister Seifi Gharib chaired a government meeting devoted to studying several points, where the government began studying a draft executive decree that includes the methods for establishing, organizing and running agricultural cooperatives. This text aims to modernize the legal and regulatory framework for agricultural cooperatives in Algeria, with the aim of strengthening their role in agricultural development, food security and promoting rural investment.

This draft text included many developments in the field of establishing and managing agricultural cooperatives, especially by simplifying their establishment procedures by adopting a registration system instead of accreditation, by clarifying the basic laws and internal governance, by introducing variable social capital, the possibility of establishing annexes, and strengthening the role of cooperative federations.

On the other hand, and in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the government began studying the draft road papers for 2026-2028, for each sector, before presenting them to the Council of Ministers for approval.

The government also listened to a presentation on the road paper for the industrial sector, which focused on diversifying the national industry and raising the level of its contributions to the gross domestic product, as well as on the strategic vision to strengthen and consolidate the national ecosystem dedicated to developing the industrial sector.

The Prime Minister was keen to recall the general directives related to the methodology for preparing sectoral road papers, especially in terms of defining the strategic axes of the sector, which must be based on an objective diagnosis of the current situation, identifying operational mechanisms and tools in order to embody this strategy, aligning the objectives of the strategy with the available human and financial capabilities, taking care of the sectoral interaction of the proposed measures and projects, and estimating deadlines for their implementation.
