Ait Messaoudane receives the representative of the United Nations Fund – New Algeria

Receive Minister of Health, Mohamed Siddiq Ait Messaoudane, representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Algeria, Faiza Ben Driss, where the meeting was an opportunity to review the reality and prospects of existing bilateral cooperation between the two parties.

A statement by the Ministry, today, Tuesday, explained that this meeting, which took place yesterday, Monday, at the Ministry’s headquarters, in the presence of frameworks from the central administration, constituted “an opportunity to review the reality and prospects of bilateral cooperation that has existed for several years between the Ministry of health And the United Nations Population Fund office in Algeria.”

According to the same statement, work will be done to “strengthen and expand this cooperation in the future, especially with regard to the gains achieved by Algeria in the fields of reproductive health, family planning, reducing maternal mortality, clinical care for women victims of violence, and improving the capabilities of health professionals, in a way that ensures the quality of health services.”

In this context, Ait Messaoudane highlighted “the important gains achieved by the national health system, especially the significant reduction in maternal mortality and the increase in life expectancy, in addition to improving health coverage and the well-being of the population.”

The Minister stressed – according to the same source – “the importance of continuing and strengthening the strategic partnership with the United Nations Population Fund,” praising its role in supporting national health programs, especially maternal, women’s and reproductive health.

The Minister highlighted that “this cooperation contributed significantly to consolidating preventive and participatory approaches, in line with the priorities of the national health policy and Algeria’s international commitments.”

For her part, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund mentioned “Algeria’s commitment regarding what was affirmed during the Nairobi conference in 2019, which aims to achieve the three basic goals of this summit, which are zero preventable maternal deaths, zero unmet needs in the field of family planning, and zero cases of violence against women, by the year 2030,” as indicated in the statement.

Ben Driss described Algeria as a “strategic partner,” stressing “the Fund’s readiness to continue working, coordinating, and accompanying national efforts in areas related to maternal and women’s health,” as stated in the same source.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties expressed their “optimism about the future of cooperation between Algeria and the United Nations Population Fund,” stressing that “joint work will allow achieving qualitative and sustainable achievements in the field of maternal and women’s health.”
