Zerrougui is a member of the African Council for Artificial Intelligence – New Algeria

Sayed Ali Zerrougui, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, participated via video lecture technology in the first meeting to install the Africa Council for Artificial Intelligence of the Smart Africa Alliance, as part of his appointment as a member of this high-level continental council, which includes ministers and experts from various regions of the African continent, according to a statement by the ministry.
The Ministry explained in its statement today, Saturday, that this appointment came from among 226 prominent figures, including 54 ministers, as the Council consists of only 15 members, distributed as follows: five ministers, six experts in the field, and four co-chairs from among the five ministers (02) and experts (02), who will be elected on the first of next March, on the sidelines of the International Mobile Conference hosted by the city of Barcelona.
The members of the Council were selected by a tripartite committee composed of the International Telecommunication Union, the African Union, and the Smart Africa Alliance.
According to the statement, this meeting represented an opportunity to present and discuss the road map for activating the Africa Council for Artificial Intelligence, as well as the mechanisms for implementing the African strategy for artificial intelligence, in a way that ensures accelerating the adoption of these technologies at the continental level according to a responsible, comprehensive and sovereign approach that serves the interests of the African peoples.
In the same context, the program of the Council’s annual meetings was discussed, the main milestones were identified, and the creation of specialized technical work teams was discussed.
During this participation, Minister Zerrougui affirmed Algeria’s commitment to effectively contributing to the formulation of policies and strategic and regulatory frameworks related to the governance of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, and to enhancing cooperation with sister African countries in the areas of innovation, capacity building, and developing human competencies.
