Rain floods roads, vehicles, and homes in several states

Heavy rain and snowfall in several states of the country during the recent period caused the closure of several roads and the leakage of rainwater into homes and shops, which prompted the intervention of civil protection services in coordination with the Office of Cleansing to pump out the water and rescue several stranded people who were swept away by the floodwaters.

As a result of these weather fluctuations, which recorded a rainfall amounting to 120 mm, local authorities across several states began field operations, especially to open closed roads and lanes, to ensure the continuity of traffic and break the isolation of the affected areas.

The concerned departments have mobilized the necessary human and material resources through intervention teams that work continuously within the framework of the proactive plan that the Minister of the Interior called for to activate to deal with weather fluctuations.

Field teams from the Public Works Department also intervened immediately to open the blockages and clean the water drainage channels at various major road axes, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and remove all the waste swept away by the floods, while monitoring black spot operations continues while waiting for weather conditions to stabilize to ensure that the road network remains safe and usable.

In this regard, the General Directorate of Civil Protection revealed, on Tuesday, the recording of a number of interventions as a result of the recent weather fluctuations that several states witnessed during the past hours, noting that a truck stuck on the heavy-duty road in the place called Al-Safour in the municipality of Relizane was removed, with a driver on board, and he was in good condition. Another truck stuck on the heavy-weight road in the place called Al-Maghan was removed, without recording any human casualties. A car stuck with a person on board was also removed from the 1026 residential district following the rain. Accumulated rainwater was pumped out in the Bermada neighborhood, Shadli neighborhood, Hamo neighborhood, Al-Toub neighborhood, Dallas neighborhood, and Al-Intisar neighborhood, without recording any human casualties.

In my municipality, the landfill and Wadi al-Jumaa, a car stuck on National Road No. 4 with a driver on board was removed and he was in good condition, and the accumulated rainwater was sucked out from inside a residence in the agricultural village following the rainfall, without recording any human casualties. In the municipality of Beni Zantis, the same authorities absorbed the accumulated rainwater from inside a residence in the place called the Oulad Zakri roundabout.

It was also recorded in the state of Laghouat that a car stuck in the mud with three people on board was removed as a result of the rise in the water level of Wadi Mezi in the place called the Al-Hamda area, without recording any human losses, while the same departments in the municipality of Tiaret succeeded in pumping out the accumulated rainwater from inside two homes in the place called the Kerman and Drought neighborhood, without recording any human losses.

For its part, the National Gendarmerie Services called on road users to exercise caution and caution in light of the weather fluctuations taking place in many states. The National Gendarmerie leadership stressed, in a post on its Facebook page “My Way,” on Tuesday, the necessity of respecting the safety distance, reducing speed, and not venturing out and trying to cross roads closed due to rising water levels.

For reference, the National Meteorological Office announced in a special weather bulletin that thunderstorm rain falling between 40 mm and 60 mm and may reach 80 mm in the following states: Tipaza, Chlef, Mostaganem, Relizane, Mascara, Ain Defla, Tsemsilt, Tiaret and Saida, and the same source added that the validity of the bulletin continues until today, Wednesday, at 09:00 hours.

In the state of Chlef, rainwater was pumped out from 21 homes, and two families consisting of 10 individuals who were trapped inside their homes were rescued. In the state of Tiaret, rainwater was pumped out from inside several homes and buildings. The same was true in the state of Medea, where rainwater was pumped out from inside two homes, with the collapse of an external wall of a house recorded, without any human casualties recorded.

The civil protection services indicated that rainwater had been sucked out from inside 5 residences and a warehouse belonging to the Labal Foundation in the state of Ain Defla, while an empty bus that was stuck due to the accumulation of rainwater in the Oulad Bel Khalfa roundabout was removed, and a wall about 5 meters long collapsed next to the Brotherhood Hamdi neighborhood in Tissemsilt, without recording human casualties.
