Between welcoming and criticizing… Speed’s visit creates controversy in Algeria – New Algeria

Although “Speed’s” visit to Algeria was characterized by the promotion of various Algerian customs and traditions throughout the country, starting from the desert to the Kasbah of the capital, passing through several historical and tourist places, and despite the large views that the concerned person received through his live broadcast of all his outputs, the visit was characterized by widespread uproar in the country as a result of the unusual interaction of Algerians with the visit and also some of the actions issued by the “guest.”

The interaction with the American YouTuber’s visit to Algeria was not limited to his followers and all citizens, but rather extended to the interaction of political activists and other fields, as well as psychological and social analysts.

In this context, the former head of the Movement for Society for Peace, Abdel Razzaq Makri, commented on his official Facebook page with astonishment at the large attendance witnessed by the “Speed” march in the streets of the capital. He even described it as a march, as he wrote, “Is this march in Algiers licensed or not? And what is the cause that this march defends?”

The head of the National Union of Public Health Practitioners, Elias Merabet, also interacted with the visit, writing on his account, “What is this, people?” In a comment on the events surrounding the nature of Speed’s visit.

In his analysis of the phenomenon, the psychological and social expert, Noureddine Bakis, said in a video on his official Facebook page that the uproar caused by the American YouTuber “Speed” stems from the nature of the Algerian audience, which is characterized by being a single audience and not a divided audience.

The spokesman said that the American YouTuber works on the idea of ​​excitement, curiosity and entertainment, and uses clowning to attract attention and has his own audience who prefer to follow such content that he presents, explaining that his imposition on the entire Algerian public is the reason for the controversy.

The spokesman pointed out that this is not the first time that content creators on social media spaces have caused a stir during their visits to Algeria, as he said, “We notice that everyone who wants to cause a stir comes to Algeria, because Algeria has one audience and not a divided audience. When there is a visit by celebrities, it is supposed to be for their audience only and not imposed on another audience so that this noise does not occur.”
