Fadi Tamim: Public transport drivers are stuck between public service and commercial taxes – New Algeria

Fadi Tamim, the national coordinator of the Algerian Organization for Consumer Protection and Guidance, noted a number of problems that public transport drivers suffer from, during his appearance as a guest on the “Here is Algeria” program broadcast by the channel.National TV“, which was devoted to talking about Transporters strike.
Tamim explained that drivers are in fact treated as public service providers, but they are tax-classified as merchants, which he described as an abnormal situation. He added that carriers, since 2012, have been obligated to apply a unified price within the framework of public service, and in return they are subject to a full tax burden, which creates a clear imbalance.

He also pointed out that all customs and tax procedures are applied to the category of drivers who are able to import, while, as he put it, they need customs and tax exemptions instead of burdening them with more burdens.
