Abdelkader Qasi: The transportation crisis is deeper than just issuing a traffic law – New Algeria

Political analyst Abdelkader Qasi confirmed, during his guest appearance on the “Here is Algeria” segment broadcast by the national channel, that talk about the urgency of issuing a new traffic law must be presented in a comprehensive and transparent framework that takes into account the real backgrounds of the worsening traffic accidents in Algeria, especially in light of the increasing number of victims in recent years.
In response to the journalist’s question about the need to expedite the issuance of a strict traffic law following the recent tragic incidents, most notably the Oued El Harrach bus crash, Kaci stressed that the transportation situation in Algeria is catastrophic, given the large numbers of deaths and injuries recorded annually on the roads.
The spokesman explained that rushing to prepare a new draft law will not be useful unless a set of basic conditions are met, the most important of which is addressing the general social situation in the country and taking into account the various circumstances surrounding the transportation sector, considering that the current time is not appropriate to draft a new traffic law without an in-depth diagnosis of the causes of these disasters.
In the same context, Qasi gave several examples, the most important of which is not holding the driver alone responsible for accidents, explaining that most drivers graduate from driving schools, which requires strict monitoring of the work of these schools and the quality of training they provide. He also pointed out that the condition of the roads in many areas does not allow for safe driving, in addition to the condition of the vehicles in circulation in Algeria and the type of spare parts used, which play a direct role in the occurrence of accidents.
At the conclusion of his speech, political analyst Abdul Qader Qasi summarized his position by emphasizing the necessity of reconsidering the background of traffic accidents and traffic disasters, and working to identify the defect and address it seriously, before issuing any new traffic law.
