New procedures in Algeria to build an effective system to protect workers

The Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Abdul Haq Sayhi, confirmed that preserving worker safety and protecting his health by relying on digitalization are two essential pillars for building an effective national system for occupational safety and health.
Abdul Haq Sayhi chaired an evaluation meeting devoted to following up and evaluating the activities of the Occupational Hazards Prevention Authority in the construction, public works and irrigation sectors.
The Director General of the Authority gave a presentation on the outcome of the activities completed and the extent of implementation of prevention plans, as well as the axes of the work plan for the year 2026. After that, the Minister provided a set of strategic directives, most notably the intensification of field outings directed to construction, public works and irrigation workshops, relying on risk indicators and accident rates, and directing interventions towards institutions with high risks and high labor density, within a proactive preventive approach.
The Minister stressed the need to adopt a unified national approach to preventing occupational risks, based on smart targeting of workshops and institutions based on databases and analysis of accident rates, while moving to a smart preventive system that relies on digital solutions and real-time risk assessment systems.
The same spokesman also stressed the need to ensure continuous follow-up of the implementation of prevention plans in the field of occupational health and safety, with strictness in applying regulatory texts, preparing detailed reports, and referring violations to the competent authorities, in close coordination with the interests of the Labor Inspectorate, in a way that enhances the effectiveness of oversight, inspection, sensitization, and awareness.
The Minister also stressed the importance of unifying mechanisms for collecting and analyzing data on work accidents and occupational hazards, and exploiting them in preparing proactive analytical studies that support decision-making and improving preventive policies, developing digital training programs for the benefit of workers and institutions through interactive platforms, to consolidate the culture of prevention and occupational safety and expand the scope of awareness using digitalization.
Saihi highlighted the need to accelerate the digitization of all Prevention Authority services, abandon traditional management patterns, and develop an integrated, secure, interoperable national information system that complies with modern standards in the field of occupational health and safety.
The same speaker added that a strategic plan will be prepared for the period 2026-2030, in line with the national policy for digital transformation, and based on digitizing the preventive path, improving the quality of services and facilitating access to information for the benefit of institutions and workers.
The Minister reiterated his emphasis that digitization and smart prevention represent two essential pillars for building an effective national system for occupational safety and health, stressing that worker safety, especially in the construction, public works, and irrigation sectors, is a collective responsibility of the highest priority.
