Tuesday hearing: What does the Minister of Interior and Transport say before the National Assembly – Algerian Al-Hiwar newspaper

The Local Equipment and Development Committee, headed by Yahya Scharf, will hold a hearing on Tuesday, at the headquarters of the National Assembly, with the Minister of the Interior, Local Communities and Transport, within the framework of studying the text of the law containing the traffic law, which is still under enrichment and discussion.
This meeting comes in the context of enriching the draft traffic law, which aims to reduce traffic accidents and protect road users, in light of mounting societal concern over the continuing rise in the number of accidents and their victims, as the project seeks to move from circumstantial treatment to a comprehensive preventive approach, ensuring the safety of lives and property, and establishing a responsible traffic culture. The new draft traffic law focuses on strengthening prevention elements, in addition to deterring the most serious violators in the event of accidents leading to death, such as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, while emphasizing that the text does not target minor violations. The draft law came in response to the state of anxiety that has gripped citizens during the recent period, after the alarming rise in the curve of recorded traffic accidents. It also encourages raising the level of traffic awareness among citizens and civil society, and establishing a culture of reporting and participation. In addition, the project includes incentive mechanisms for drivers who adhere to traffic safety rules, through the creation of awards, including the President’s Award for Traffic Safety, with the aim of encouraging a culture of commitment and excellence.
