Abolition of the new car tax at customs starting from January 2026 – New Algeria

The Customs Authority announced the cancellation of the obligation to pay tax on new cars during the customs process, starting from January 1, 2026, within the framework of the amendments brought by the Finance Law of 2026.

This measure comes after amending the provisions of Article 147 bis of the Stamp Law, whereby importers are no longer required to submit a tax payment receipt within the customs declaration file for new cars.

In the same regard, the National Gendarmerie Services clarified that customs declarations registered before January 1, 2026 remain subject to the previous system, and are required to pay the tax in accordance with the legislation in force at that time.

This is a step that will reduce the burden on car importers and stimulate the new vehicle market.
