Before Ramadan.. more than 25 quintals of adulterated spices were seized in Setif – New Algeria

The regional division of the National Gendarmerie in Saleh Bay, Setif Province, was able to dismantle a secret workshop specialized in the manufacture of counterfeit spices, as part of efforts to combat crime in its various forms, at the forefront of which are those that affect the national economy, public health and food security of the citizen, according to a statement, today, Monday, by the services.

The National Gendarmerie Services statement stated that the operation came as a result of confirmed information about illegal activity in a workshop located in one of the suburbs of the Salih Bay municipality, whose owner manufactures and mixes spices of various kinds without having the necessary legal licenses, in addition to not respecting the minimum hygiene conditions applicable to this type of activity.

In the same context, a solid security plan was prepared after intensifying investigations carried out by the Gendarmerie and determining the location of the workshop accurately, which resulted in a raid on the place in coordination with the Regional Trade Inspectorate and the Quality and Fraud Suppression Authority in Ain Wolman.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of more than 25 quintals of adulterated spices of various types that were prepared for canning and marketing, in addition to the seizure of machines and equipment used in the manufacture and adulteration of spices. The total financial value of the seized items was estimated at about 121.3 million centimes.

The suspect and the case file will be presented before the competent judicial authorities, after completing all necessary legal procedures.
