The draft transportation law is still under study

Some inciting voices called on transporters to launch a strike, even though the draft new transport law is still in the discussion stage and has not yet entered into force.

These loud voices coincided with similar strikes in the transport sectors in several countries, such as Iran, Syria and Libya, which leaves open the question about the real and undeclared goals of the instigators of this strike, especially since the Ministry of Interior, Local Communities and Transport confirmed, during its meeting, that the draft transport law is still in the discussion stage and has not yet entered into force.

The Ministry also confirmed that this law aims primarily to deter road users (all types) who commit violations and dangerous maneuvers that affect the safety of people, and cause loss of life or cause permanent disabilities.

This law also increases penalties, including imprisonment, as they are only applied to people proven responsible for a traffic accident that led to death due to driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The Ministry also pointed out that the limited and simple increase in fuel prices came to meet the demand of gas station owners, to guarantee them a profit margin, to ensure the continuity of providing their services. At the same time, the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines had published an explanatory statement about updating fuel prices, as it confirmed that the new fuel prices do not reflect the true cost of the product (from extraction, refining, transportation and distribution), noting that the public treasury continues to bear the largest burden of the final price to maintain purchasing power and support economic activities.
