The Kremlin announced on Monday that Ukraine must withdraw its forces from the areas still under its control in Donbass if it wants to achieve peace, warning that it may lose more territory if an agreement is not reached.
A phone call took place yesterday, Sunday, between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, prior to Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Miami.
Another call between Putin and Trump is scheduled soon, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Peskov declined to comment on the idea of establishing a free economic zone in Donbass or the future of the Zaporozhye nuclear plant under Russia’s control.
Explaining that the Kremlin considers these topics inappropriate for discussion at the present time.
Peskov pointed out that Russian estimates indicate that Moscow currently controls about a fifth of Ukraine’s area.
Including the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014, in addition to about 90% of Donbass, and 75% of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions,
And small parts of Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Peskov also reiterated Trump’s statements indicating the possibility of Ukraine losing more territory to Russia in the coming months if Kiev is unable to reach an agreement.
