This Monday, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency session to discuss the political and legal repercussions of the Zionist entity’s announcement of its recognition of the so-called “Somaliland.” This came based on an urgent request submitted by the Somali federal government, which described the move as a “deliberate attack” on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

It is expected that the session will be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, amid widespread international anticipation of the positions of Council members. It is expected that the Zionist decision will face sharp criticism, as it is a unilateral recognition that threatens peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, and constitutes a dangerous precedent in international law.

This step comes after a wave of widespread Arab, Islamic and international condemnation. In this context, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States announced the holding of an emergency meeting of the League Council, today, Sunday, at the delegate level, to discuss developments and reject any unilateral measures that affect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Last Friday, the Somali government confirmed its full adherence to the country’s sovereignty and national unity, and its categorical rejection of Zionist recognition of the so-called “Somaliland,” considering the region an integral part of its territory.

Mogadishu also stressed its firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and its rejection of any attempts to drag Somalia into proxy conflicts or transfer regional and international conflicts to its territory.
