The Arab League condemns Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland” and affirms its full support for Somalia

The Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates, during its extraordinary session today, Sunday, condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli entity’s recognition of the territory of “Somaliland,” affirming its full solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia in the face of any threat to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement issued after the emergency meeting explained that this recognition constitutes “an attack on Arab national security and destabilizes international peace and security,” stressing that the “Somaliland” region is an integral part of the Republic of Somalia.

The statement warned that this step aims to achieve “political and security agendas,” noting that the goal of the recognition is to facilitate plans to displace Palestinians and usurp the ports of northern Somalia to establish military bases.

He also stressed Somalia’s right to “legitimate defense of its lands” in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and the relevant articles of the Arab League Charter, stressing its support for any measures taken by the Somali state within the framework of international legitimacy to confront this attack.

This meeting comes in response to the request of the Permanent Representative of Somalia to the League, within the framework of the joint Arab action to confront the Israeli move, which the Somali government considered a “flagrant attack” on its sovereignty and territorial integrity, amid warnings of its repercussions on the stability of the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
