Dismantling organized criminal networks specialized in online fraud

The National Security Cybercrime Central Service (SCLC) was able to dismantle 32 organized criminal networks specialized in online fraud, including an international network whose activities originate from an Asian country, with the arrest of 5 of its members.

This came in a National Security statement, Tuesday, which stated that “the Central Service for Combating Cybercrimes for National Security (SCLC) carried out a large-scale operation that included all states of the country targeting networks specialized in defrauding and defrauding citizens via the Internet.”

The same source confirmed that the operation enabled “the dismantling of 32 organized criminal networks specialized in online fraud, including an international network whose activities originate from an Asian country, with the arrest of 5 of its members.”

The same statement also added that National Security arrested 197 people involved, including 31 people subject to arrest warrants related to fraud crimes.

The statement explained, “Forensic analyzes of the data revealed the methods used to collect information about the victims, which relied on social engineering, phishing, and attacks through information-stealing software and impersonation of the identity of public and private companies, which caused the victims financial damage in the national currency exceeding 52 billion and 900 million centimes, in addition to other sums of money in foreign currencies.”

In conclusion, the statement indicated that “the suspects were brought before the competent regional prosecutors.”

The General Directorate of National Security also called on all citizens to be careful and vigilant in their postal and banking transactions via the Internet, to verify the sources of messages and communications, and not to share personal information or click on suspicious links.

This operation confirms the vigilance of security interests in Algeria to confront all threats facing the country.
