The first national team begins preparing for the African Cup

Today, the first national football team begins preparing for the African Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held in Morocco between December 21 and December 18, 2026.
Professional players ended their commitments with their European clubs at the beginning of this week, as allowed by FIFA.
FIFA set December 15 as the date for players to join their national teams, in order to prepare for the continental event.
Houari Boumediene Airport receives desert warriors
On Monday morning, Houari Boumediene International Airport in the capital witnessed the beginning of the arrival of some players from the first national team.
Key defender Issa Mandi, a player for French club Lille, was the first to arrive home.
The Algerian Federation allocated special buses to the teammates of leader Riyad Mahrez to transport them to the national teams’ preparation center in Sidi Moussa.
The census (28) is expected to be completed this evening, with the first training session under the leadership of coach Vladimir Petkovic.
The Bosnian coach revealed the final list participating in the African Cup, which included four players who competed in the Arab Cup in Qatar.
These are led by the Qatari League duo, Adel Boulbena from Al-Duhail Club and Radwan Barkan from Al-Wakrah Club.
The Greens are preparing for the continental championship in Algeria, and will travel to Morocco on Friday.
The first national team will face its Sudanese counterpart in the opening of its matches for Group E, on Wednesday, December 24.
It will face Burkina Faso four days later, then Equatorial Guinea at the end of the group stage on December 31.
The compound stadium, Riyadh Moulay Hassan, in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, will host all of the Greens’ matches in this round.
