A statement by the Ministry of National Defense stated, on Wednesday, that within the framework of the fight against terrorism, the two terrorists named respectively “A.A,” known as “Abu Jaafar” and “H.S.,” known as “Sharif,” surrendered themselves to the military authorities in both Adrar and In Guezam, and in their possession was a machine gun, three Kalashnikov machine pistols, a quantity of ammunition, and other items, while army detachments arrested 4 members of support for terrorist groups during operations. In the same context, and in continuation of the tireless efforts aimed at confronting the scourge of drug trafficking in the country, joint detachments of the People’s National Army, in coordination with various security services during operations across the military regions, arrested 30 drug dealers and thwarted attempts to bring 19 quintals and 93 kilograms of processed kif across the border with Morocco, while 1,425,734 hallucinogenic tablets were seized.
Detachments of the People’s National Army also arrested 344 people and seized 29 vehicles, 244 electric generators, 133 pressure hammers, in addition to quantities of gold ore mixture, stones and equipment used in illegal gold prospecting operations in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezam, Illizi and Djanet.
The statement added that other army detachments arrested 14 other people and seized a Kalashnikov machine gun, 7 hunting rifles, 103,300 liters of fuel, in addition to 25 quintals of tobacco, and 10 tons of foodstuffs destined for smuggling and speculation, during separate operations.
On the other hand, coast guards thwarted illegal immigration attempts on the national coast and rescued 63 people who were on board traditional-made boats, while 270 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory.
