A massive fire has broken out at a football pitch after a fire broke out in the stands and around five engines were dispatched to Exeter City Football Club on Wednesday shortly after 10pm.

Video footage of the fire showed plumes of black smoke with bright orange and red flames rising from the scene.

While the fire continued into the early hours of Thursday morning, although Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it had scaled back the response.

In a statement issued by Exeter City Football Club this morning, the club said: “We can confirm that a small area of ​​the pitch was damaged by fire last night.

It is believed the fire broke out at the corner of St James’s Street and Whale Street at the stadium and caused damage to the temporary building housing the stadium’s control room.

“The alarm was raised shortly after 10 p.m., and more than five fire crews participated in putting out the fire, who were able to control the fire within two hours. “We will assess the damage today and will update when we get more information.”

There have been no reports of any injuries so far, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
