The US Navy announced that two of its aircraft crashed in the South China Sea in two separate incidents on Sunday, with no casualties reported.

A statement issued by the US Pacific Fleet said that the first incident involved a Sea Hawk helicopter that fell into the waters of the South China Sea “while conducting routine operations from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.”

The statement stated that search and rescue teams were able to recover all three crew members who were on board the helicopter.

Half an hour later, according to the Navy, a Super Hornet fighter jet crashed in the South China Sea “while conducting routine operations,” also from the USS Nimitz.

The statement added that the two pilots who were on board jumped from it and were recovered safely.

The US Navy noted that “the cause of the two accidents is currently under investigation.”

These incidents come at a time when US President Donald Trump is visiting the region in his first visit to Asia during his second term, and with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth preparing to begin an Asian tour that will also include several countries.

Earlier this year, two US warplanes crashed from the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman while on a mission in the Middle East.
