Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Poland of “preparing to carry out terrorist acts,” against the backdrop of statements by his Polish counterpart, Radoslaw Sikorski, in which he questioned ensuring the security of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plane if it crossed Polish airspace towards Budapest to participate in the possible summit with US President Donald Trump.
Lavrov said: “I heard that the Polish Foreign Minister threatened not to guarantee the security of President Putin’s plane, and this proves that the Poles are ready to carry out terrorist acts.”
Sikorsky had previously stated that his country “cannot guarantee the safety of the plane carrying the Russian President, as an independent court can order the government to stop it and hand Putin over to the International Criminal Court,” referring to the arrest warrant issued against the Russian President in March 2023.
These statements coincide with possible arrangements to hold a meeting between Putin and Trump in Budapest during the next two weeks, amid the continued ban on Russian aircraft flying in the airspace of the European Union since February 2022, while Hungary confirmed its readiness to provide an air corridor for Putin’s plane.
