President Tebboune’s message on the occasion of National Immigration Day – New Algeria

face President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid TebbouneToday, Thursday, a message on the occasion of National Immigration Day, commemorating the 64th anniversary of the demonstrations of October 17, 1961/2025, reads as follows:

“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and may blessings and peace be upon the most honorable messengers.

Dear citizens, we recall the seventeenth of October, an immortal day in national memory, expressing the solidarity of Algerian immigrants with the glorious liberation revolution, which at that time – after seven years of armed struggle – had risen to a liberation epic that, with its momentum and revolutionary resonance, attracted the support of the free people of the world. For a people A fighter, determined to change the course of colonial history by getting rid of its power and tyranny with the highest sacrifices.

The stranglehold that intensified on the besieged colonialism over the legitimacy of the struggle and the justice of the cause… drove him, at that historical stage, to hysteria when the Paris police proceeded to impose a curfew on the members of the community by an arbitrary decision under the command of the police prefect – at the time – Maurice Papon. His arrogance plunged him into the mire of criminality and brutal suppression of crowds that went out in peaceful demonstrations, which ended in death. A tragic outcome of drowning the demonstrators in the Seine River, subjecting them to oppression, torture, and deportation to the camps… so that the memory of those sacrifices of the members of the community will remain fresh – forever – in our minds…

In this annual vigil in which we commemorate the sixty-fourth (64th) anniversary of the demonstrations of October 17, 1961, I humbly pray with you – on this occasion – for the souls of those who passed away from the generation of national fighters in exile during the victorious war of liberation, and for the souls of the righteous martyrs, and I address the daughters and sons of our national community in all the world with my greetings, as they carry love for Algeria and loyalty to it in their chests. They embody their commitment to their involvement in the dynamics of the economic transformations taking place in the country, and their will to participate in the path of national renewal and to build the modern national state, which the proud Algerian people aspire to.
