The Zionist aggression on Gaza: The assassination of 238 journalists is a fully -argan war crime

Humanitarianists affirmed today, Monday, that the assassination of 238 journalists in the Gaza Strip by the Zionist occupation forces, a fully -corner war crime and a stigma on the forehead of humanity, calling on the international community and the United Nations to assume their legal and moral responsibilities in stopping Zionist crimes and activating international protection mechanisms for civilians and journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Six journalists were martyred in the Zionist occupation raid, which targeted their tent on Sunday in Gaza City, to increase the death toll among journalists since the aggression began on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, to 238.

In this context, the head of the International Authority for the Support of the Rights of the Palestinian People, “Hashd”, lawyer Salah Abdel -Ati, said in a statement that “targeting journalists is a war crime in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law, especially Article 79 of the first additional protocol of the Geneva Conventions, which ensure special protection for journalists during armed conflicts.”

This targeting – adds – is a “grave violation of the Security Council resolution to protect journalists during armed conflicts,” stressing that “continuing to target journalists in Gaza is not only an attack on their lives and their right to life, but it is a direct attack on the freedom of the press and the right of peoples to know.”

The lawyer, the international community, the United and the United Nations Security Council, called for “to assume their legal and moral responsibilities in stopping Zionist crimes, activating the mechanisms of international protection for civilians and journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories”, calling on the states of the Semitic Parties Contracting on the Geneva Conventions to fulfill their obligations, and the practice of their judicial mandate to pursue the perpetrators of this crime, as a war crime and a crime against humanity.

He also urged the International Criminal Court to accelerate the procedures for investigation and prosecution against political and military leaders of the occupied entity, who issued orders or participated in targeting journalists, calling for urgent international protection to journalists and the media in Gaza, and enabling them to perform their professional duty to cover events and transfer facts to the world.

This is what the professor of public international law and a member of the American and European associations of international law, Mohamed Mahmoud Mahran, who described the crime of direct targeting of journalists in front of the “Al -Shifa” hospital in Gaza, went as “a field execution organized for the witnesses of truth, and a desperate attempt to obscure the features of genocide before the entire occupation of Gaza.”

He also stressed that the targeting of journalists in the tent is “a fully -watered war crime in accordance with the basic system of Rome, and the Fourth Geneva Convention, which explicitly prohibits the targeting of journalists and media professionals,” noting that the Zionist army officially adopting its responsibility for the assassination is an explicit recognition of war crimes that require immediate accountability.

In the context, the professor of international law highlighted that “targeting journalists in this systematic way violates Article 79 of the first additional protocol of the Geneva Conventions, which states that civilian journalists enjoy special protection, and it is not permissible to attack, detention or try them because of their legitimate press activities.”
