The permanent representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Ambassador Ammar bin Jameh, was elected Deputy Chairman of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in a move that reflects the prestigious position that Algeria has on the international scene, and its increasing role in the UN forum.

This election is a recognition of Algeria’s firm commitment to promoting sustainable, fair and comprehensive development, both regional and international.

The Economic and Social Council, as one of the main agencies of the United Nations, plays a pivotal role in following up the implementation of the sustainable development plan for 2030, and accompanying member states in addressing the current economic, social and environmental challenges.

Algeria, through this new leadership role, intends to plead for a balanced development model that achieves economic and social justice, based on its national vision based on the consolidation of the social dimension in economic policies, a vision embodied by the President’s Program program, Mr. Abdul Majeed Taboun, who puts sustainable development at the core of the priorities of national action.

This position also enables Algeria to communicate the voice of African countries and the countries of the south and defend their common interests in light of the increasing global challenges, while ensuring that no one can fail to knee sustainable development.
