Algeria reviews its pioneering experience in religious tolerance

The MP of the National People’s Assembly, Mohamed Mashqam, in Rome (Italy), reviewed the leading experience of religious tolerance and defense of fair issues across the world.
The council statement stated that the deputy highlighted, in his intervention during the plenary session of the Dialogue Forum between Religions, “Algeria’s vision based on its ancient history and its pioneering experience in religious tolerance and the guarantor legislation of freedoms, as well as defending fair issues, led by the Palestinian issue.”
The spokesman also stressed that Algeria “was not an urgent day on the culture of tolerance, but rather through the ages a land to meet religions”, citing this “the presence of St. Augustine Cathedral in Annaba”, and also evoked “the personality of Prince Abdul Qadir who saved hundreds of lives from Christians and Jews in Damascus, and it became a symbol of the human conscience and international humanitarian law.”
In his intervention, the deputy stated that this cultural heritage was not limited to memory, but rather “translated by Algeria constitutionally”, recalling Article 51 of the Constitution, which “guarantees freedom of worship and protects its places from politicization.”
Mashqam added on the same occasion, that Algeria “was not satisfied with the official recognition of the freedom of non-Muslims. And its confrontation. ”
On the other hand, the Algerian parliamentarian warned of “the growth of international violations that strike the foundations of understanding between religions and cultures”, and “employing religion and identity to justify violence, repression and discrimination”, citing the situation in Gaza and the occupied territories, which “has become an open wound in the global conscience.”
After emphasizing the commitment of Algeria to the leadership of the President of the Republic, Abdel Majid Taboun, to remain “a voice for a fair peace and a mosque space for coexistence and freedoms, and an effective contribution to building a world of fairness and dignity”, he called Mashqam to “embody this dialogue” through “laws that protect people, institutions that sponsor rights, and live consciences that defend dignity”.
For reference, the forum was attended by the President of the International Parliamentary Union and Speaker of the Italian Parliament, along with the Speaker of the Italian Senate and many parliamentary and religious delegations from all over the world.
