Zahana: Processing 126 million tons of goods in 2023 – Al-Hiwar Algeria

Transport Minister Mohamed Zahana confirmed, today, Tuesday, in the capital, that Algerian ports handled 126 million tons of goods and more than 1.55 million equivalent containers during the year 2023.
This came in a speech he delivered during the work of the first edition of the Expert Forum on Innovation, Intelligence and Sustainability, which was organized under the patronage of the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Emerging Institutions and Micro-enterprises, and which was devoted to the transport sector.
In this speech, Zahana highlighted the most important positive indicators witnessed by the transport sector in its various types for the year 2023, most notably maritime transport, where, as he explained, “Algerian ports handled 126 million tons of goods and about 1.55 million equivalent EVP containers, with their registration for transporting about 766 thousand passengers.
Regarding land transport, the Minister revealed that in 2023, the Logitrans complex transported more than 4.7 million tons of various types of goods, covering a distance of approximately 126 million km and using about 3,500 trucks of different sizes, of which 600 trucks are owned by the complex.
On the other hand, Zahana pointed out that the number of public transporters via roads for passengers is estimated at 58 thousand carriers operating 80 thousand vehicles providing more than 2.6 million seats, in addition to a significant number of public carriers via roads for goods, estimated at 480 thousand carriers utilizing 745. One thousand trucks provide more than 8.1 million tons of restricted load.
As for air transport, he confirmed that it witnessed dynamism and accelerated growth during the period after the Covid-19 pandemic, as the 36 airports open to public air navigation recorded about 15.4 million passengers, of which 6.7 million were on the internal network and 8.6 million were on the network. The international network, exceeding the level recorded before the pandemic, estimated in 2019, at 14.3 million passengers.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the forum, Zahana confirmed the readiness of the transportation sector regarding preparations for transporting pilgrims to the Holy Sites, noting, on the other hand, the existence of a special program for sea and air transportation during the summer season.
The activities of the first edition of the Expert Forum on Innovation, Sustainability and Logistics in the field of transport are being held, with the participation of representatives of public institutions in the field of transport in its various types, in addition to representatives of emerging companies and others specialized in the fields of banking and insurance.
