37 killed and 1,760 injured in traffic accidents in a week

Civil Protection Services revealed that 1,263 traffic accidents were recorded within a week, leaving 37 dead and 1,760 injured, while 443 people in danger were rescued.
A statement by the General Directorate of Civil Protection stated that during the period from February 15 to 21, 2026, civil protection units recorded 22,243 interventions, and this was as a result of receiving distress calls from citizens. These interventions included various areas of civil protection activities, whether related to traffic accidents, domestic accidents, health evacuation, fire suppression, and security services’ coverage of various demonstrations.
The protection units recorded 14,171 interventions for health evacuations, through which 14,010 wounded and sick people were treated and evacuated to hospitals, while the same units recorded 2,168 interventions in the context of traffic accidents for 1,263 traffic accidents that led to the death of 37 people and the injury of 1,760 others who were treated and transferred to hospital centers. It is considered the heaviest toll recorded in the state of Adrar, with the death of 5 people at the scene of the accidents. 8 others were injured as a result of 8 traffic accidents.
Civil protection units also carried out 883 interventions that allowed the extinguishing of 577 fires, including domestic, industrial and various fires, the most important of which were recorded in the state of Algiers 79 fires, Blida 39 fires and Biskra 28 fires, while protection units in the field of various operations recorded 5021 interventions in order to save 443 people in danger and cover 4433 ambulance operations.
Regarding incidents related to poisoning by carbon monoxide (Co) gas emitted from various means of heating and water heaters, the same units carried out 12 interventions that allowed the provision of first aid to 30 people poisoned by carbon monoxide (Co) gas, and then they were transferred to hospital institutions, with the death of one person recorded.
